A couple years ago, I wrote a relatively popular essay about coming out as trans in the midst of a long term relationship. With the essay, I wanted to address the lack of “happy endings” in representations of trans folks who came out well into a relationship. I wanted my story, and the success my partner and I found in staying together, to give people hope.
